Transition Services
Vocational Rehabilitation Service ( VRS )
places substantial emphasis on transition
from school to work. Our transition teams assist junior and senior high school
students with disabilities in preparing for employment and community living.
VRS counselors
work with students, parents,
special education teachers, coordinators, and other school personnel throughout
the state to provide assistance to students in developing career goals and
obtaining on-the-job training opportunities. Each year, VRS assists 17,330 adolescents and
students with disabilities. Every high school in Alabama has a
VRS counselor
assigned to provide services to
students with disabilities.
VRS also
funds and monitors a network
of local community transition teams. These teams are designed to enhance
communication among school personnel, vocational rehabilitation staff,
community
businesses and organizations to develop job training and placement
opportunities
for students with disabilities. Services
