Training & Technical Assistance

About STAR Training Services

STAR is committed to providing training and technical assistance to consumers statewide in support of state leadership activities of the ADRS State Plan.

Since its inception,  STAR has developed a number of training modules that respond to customer needs statewide. Training services provided by  STAR staff can be custom-designed for specific groups and are delivered upon request. Several content-specific training modules are under development and include:

  • Module one: Transition Services
    Target audience : Special educators; vocational rehabilitation counselors; parents; and students involved in transitioning from school to employment, post-secondary or community living.
    Purpose : To provide the skills and knowledge needed to successfully include assistive technology in transitioning to new environments.
  • Module two: Long-Term Care
    Target audience : Staff of nursing homes, supported living, long-term care providers, family members and consumers with significant disabilities.
    Purpose: To provide the skills and knowledge needed to successfully include assistive technology in service and transition planning.

About Technical Assistance

STAR  provides direct and coordinated technical assistance to individuals, groups, agencies, and organizations upon request. STAR ’s technical assistance activities focus on specific problem solving to ensure the appropriate access to and acquisition of AT, the appropriate use and application of assistive technology devices, assistive technology services, and AT-specific training to meet the individual needs of individuals with disabilities.
