Assistive Technology Centers
About STAR ’s Reutilization Program
Through subcontracts with community-based organizations, assistive technology
reutilization programs are available statewide. The three assistive technology
centers increase options for acquiring no-cost/low-cost AT for individuals with
disabilities.
STAR 's
reutilization programs meet the needs of individuals of all ages with all types
of disabilities.
A full range of assistive technology is available with no disability
restrictions. Only the range of devices donated/listed and the resources needed
to refurbish those devices restricts these programs.
Donations are obtained by various means (family
members/advocates of individuals with disabilities, individuals with
disabilities, case managers for individuals with disabilities, schools, durable
medical equipment vendors, etc). Inquiries/acceptance arrangements can be made
by toll-free number, local numbers, email and/or in person. Donations are
tax-deductible.
Acquisition of donation(s) may occur through donor drop-off,
staff delivery, and/or donor-to-user. Each donation will be assessed on a
case-by-case basis at the closest local level for both acceptance and delivery
means. All programs will make every effort to assure donation variety as much
as possible; however, some donation items will be strictly donor-to-user.
Monthly inventory lists (346 Kb  ) are
maintained through an in-house listserv and the
STAR newsletter.
