Frequently Asked Questions
What help does CRS provide?
CRS provides
specialty medical services
for children with special health care needs. This includes specialty medical
clinics, evaluation clinics, medication, equipment, therapies, hospitalizations
and surgeries as well as support and information for families.
CRS
does not provide well-child care.
Who is eligible for services?
Any child or adolescent younger than 21 years of age who is a resident of
Alabama and has a special health care need is eligible for Children's
Rehabilitation Service. Individuals with hemophilia are eligible beyond 21
years of age.
How do I apply for services?
Simply contact any of the 15
CRS offices
for enrollment information.
Who can refer a child to CRS ?
Referrals can come from any source such as the child’s school, family
physician, therapists, or family members.
Are there restrictions for services based on income?
CRS programs
that are restricted based on family income are for transportation and purchased
services outside of a
CRS clinic.
Purchased services may include, but are not limited to, prescriptions, lab
work, tests, therapies, pre-approved physicain office visits, medical supplies,
equipment/repair, surgeries and hospitalizations.
How do I pay for services?
CRS
will bill your insurance company, ALL-Kids or Medicaid for services provided by
CRS .
The
CRS
social worker will discuss policies for those without insurance. In many cases,
services are provided at no cost.
Where will my child receive services?
CRS
offers its services via 15 offices located across the state. Unfortunately,
some pediatric specialists can only be found in the larger urban areas such as
Mobile and Birmingham. Whenever possible,
CRS
tries to provide the service as close to the child's home as possible. Families
do have a choice of which location works best for them if that
CRS
office has the pediatric provider their child needs.
Can CRS pay my old medical bills?
No.
CRS
can only pay bills for services that
CRS
authorized in advance. Bills for services that occurred prior to enrollment of
the child in
CRS
are the parent's responsibility.
